ACCESSIBILITY

WHAT THIS PAGE IS. It is a report on where this site actually stands, not a statement of intent. It lists what is checked automatically on every build, what we know is not right yet, and how to tell us about something that is stopping you.

WE DO NOT CLAIM A CONFORMANCE LEVEL. You will often see "WCAG 2.1 AA conformant" on a page like this one. Nobody here has audited every page against every criterion, so saying it would be a guess. What follows is what is actually enforced.

WHAT IS CHECKED ON EVERY BUILD, AND FAILS IT IF IT BREAKS

• TEXT CONTRAST. Body text on this site clears 7:1 against its background, which is the AAA threshold and higher than the 4.5:1 AA one. Coloured accents clear 4.5:1. This is measured from the stylesheet, not eyeballed. One colour that carried real copy at 2.87:1 was found this way and is now barred from being used for text at all.
• EVERY CONTROL HAS A NAME. Buttons, inputs and links must carry something a screen reader can announce. A placeholder does not count — it is announced inconsistently and it disappears the moment somebody types. Twelve inputs on this site once announced themselves as "edit text, blank", including the box you type a message to your shopper in; that is what this check was written for.
• TABLES OF NUMBERS ARE NAVIGABLE. Every column header carries a scope, so a screen reader can say which column a figure belongs to. Twenty-five of thirty-seven headers were missing it, on tables of money.
• TAP TARGETS ARE 44 by 44 PIXELS. That is the size Apple and Android both publish, and it is larger than the 24-pixel minimum the guidelines ask for. It is measured in a real browser at 320 and 375 pixels wide, because a phone at 320 is also what any phone becomes at 200% text zoom. The one deliberate exception is a control that sits inside a sentence, such as a language link in the footer, which cannot be 44 pixels wide without tearing a hole in the line.
• DARK BY DESIGN, AND CONSISTENTLY. This site has one colour scheme and declares it, so your browser and your operating system are told what to expect rather than guessing.
• MOTION IS OPTIONAL. If your system is set to reduce motion, the animated flourishes do not run. The seasonal decoration never sits above anything you can tap, and it can be switched off from your account.

WHAT WE KNOW IS NOT RIGHT YET

• NO SCREEN READER AUDIT HAS BEEN DONE. The checks above are automatic. Nobody has sat down with NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver and worked through placing an order start to finish. Automatic checks find missing names; they do not find a flow that is confusing to listen to.
• THE PHONE APPS ARE NOT COVERED BY ANY OF THIS. The checks above read this website. The Android apps have had no accessibility review at all.
• MAPS ARE VISUAL. The coverage map and the map on an order page convey position graphically. The same information is given as text — the address, the shop, the delivery status — but the map itself is not usable without sight.
• SOME PDF MENUS ARE IMAGES. Where a restaurant publishes its menu as a scanned photograph, we can show you that we could not read it, but we cannot make it readable. Where we could read it, the dishes are ordinary text on the page and work normally.
• WE HAVE NOT TESTED WITH VOICE CONTROL or with a switch device.

IF SOMETHING HERE IS STOPPING YOU

Write to support@driverruns.com with ACCESSIBILITY in the subject, or use the support box on any page, and tell us what you were trying to do and what happened. You do not need to know the name of the problem or which guideline it falls under — "I could not tell which button submitted the order" is exactly the right amount of detail.

WE WILL ANSWER, AND WE WILL SAY WHICH IT IS. Either we have fixed it, or we are going to and here is roughly when, or we are not able to and here is why. We would rather tell you we cannot do something than leave a message unanswered.

AND IF IT IS URGENT, IT IS NOT AN ACCESSIBILITY PROBLEM FIRST. If you cannot complete an order that you need, use the support box on any page or write to support@driverruns.com and somebody will deal with the order itself. Do not wait on this address for that.
