What you keep per mile

We pay $1.15 a mile. The IRS reckons running a vehicle costs $0.76 a mile, so the difference is yours after the car is paid for. Fuel and bad-weather surcharges are on top of this and reach you in full — we keep none of either.

How it goes up

You are on Bronze. Every completed run counts toward the next rung. 50 more to Silver.

Applied to your base, your miles and your item pay — never to a tip, a fuel surcharge or the money you fronted at the till.

It counts every run you have ever completed, and it never goes down. Not a rolling window, so time off costs you nothing. No rating, no acceptance rate, no speed — turning work down does not affect it, and neither does anything a customer says about you.

All of it is yours. The band comes from the National Weather Service rather than from us, so you can check it — and there is a minimum because the hard part of driving in an ice storm is not proportional to how far you go.

Waiting at a counter

Hot food and prepaid pickups, where somebody is making you wait for something that is not ready. The clock runs to a maximum of 45 paid minutes ($22.50).

How long is free depends on how you collect it. Collecting an order that is already paid for: the first 10 minutes are included. Walking in and waiting while it is cooked: the first 5. After that the meter runs either way.

The customer is charged the same $0.50 — we keep none of it. It is held from their card when they order, so it can actually be paid; a wait with no room reserved inside the ceiling pays zero however long you stood there.

Card processing

The customer covers it. Your published pay is what reaches your bank.

Every run is charged on your own Stripe account, so the card fee comes out of your balance — and it is charged on the whole amount, including the money you fronted at the till, which is not yours and never was. Front $85.00 of shopping and the card alone takes $2.77 of it, before a cent of that is your pay.

So the customer is charged it, as its own line on their receipt marked as Stripe’s rather than ours. It does move with what they ordered — it is a percentage of the whole charge — and that is exactly why it is not yours to carry.
